Fullen Dock And Warehouse Provides Assistance To Habitat For Humanity

MEMPHIS, Tenn.—(Nov. 15, 2005)—Fullen Dock and Warehouse, an intermodal river terminal located at Mile 740 of the Lower Mississippi, today announced it recently donated staff time, resources and four intermodal containers to Habitat for Humanity for Hurricane Katrina relief. The four containers contained construction goods and will be shipped to Louisiana along with other items constructed by Memphis volunteers.
“We received a call from FedEx last week seeking intermodal and loading support for an event they were coordinating at The Forum here in Memphis,” said Lanny Chalk, Fullen Dock and Warehouse terminal manager. “We were able to quickly identify how we could help and did all we could to make this an efficient process in order to speed relief to those affected by hurricane Katrina.”
Fullen Dock’s trucking partner, Jimmy T. Wood, supplied trucks and drivers to for the effort, and workers utilized Fullen Dock’s new 250-ton lattice boom crawler crane from the Link-Belt Construction Equipment Company. Situated at Dock #3, this all-hydraulic, 120’ boom crane provides increased productivity through heavier lifting capacity and allows for expanded loading and offloading capabilities.
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. Memphis Habitat has built 270 homes since its founding in 1983. Habitat houses are built with volunteer labor and sold to partner families, at no profit and with no interest charged. Partner families make a down payment and invest hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” into the construction of their homes and other Habitat homes.
When the historic bomber Memphis Belle needed a lift from the Millington Naval Base to its newly constructed pavillion at Mud Island in downtown Memphis, Fullen Dock got it there safe and sound.
